Joyce Schader Secular Humanist Scholarship
Joyce Schader served as the Ramapo College Foundation’s Associate Director of Annual Giving until her retirement in 2015. Prior to working at Ramapo, Ms. Schader was a fundraiser at St. John’s University, the City College of New York, and Brooklyn Law School. For the better part of her career, Ms. Schader worked at non-profit organizations in the area of higher education. She was a graduate of the State University of New York at Geneseo, from which she earned a BA degree in political science, and St. John’s University from which she earned an MA degree in Sociology.
“Secular humanism encourages critical thinking, and a public academic institution like Ramapo College is an appropriate place for young people to continue to develop that wisdom and cultivate free thinking,” Ms. Schader said when she created this award in 2015. Her intent with this scholarship is to recognize students who are committed to bettering the world through applied science, and who are “devoted to ethics and morals based on rationalism and humanism.”
On October 10, 2015, Joyce Schader lost her battle with lung cancer.
