Graduate Fellowships for STEM Development (GFSD)
Graduate Fellowships for STEM Development (GFSD), formerly the National Physical Science Consortium (NPSC), was founded in 1989 “To increase the number of American citizens with graduate degrees in STEM fields, emphasizing recruitment of a diverse applicant pool.” Graduate Fellowships for STEM Development (GFSD) is a partnership between federal agencies & laboratories, industry, and higher education institutions. The GFSD fellowship supports full-time graduate study only (mostly Ph.Ds). GFSD’s goal is to increase the number of American citizens with graduate degrees in STEM fields, emphasizing recruitment of a diverse applicant pool.
Each Fellow receives an annual $20,000 award to support their graduate studies. Fellowships are typically renewable for three to six years, in collaboration with our partner agencies and organizations. Renewal is based on satisfactory academic progress and continued program alignment. Fellows have the opportunity to complete paid summer internships with federal agencies, research institutions, or industry partners. Some agencies may require multiple years of participation or additional clearances (such as security screening).
