Nathan Birmingham Memorial Scholarship
Nathan “Nate” Birmingham graduated from Ramapo College in 2015 with a degree in Literature. While a student, Nate worked in the George T. Potter Library, and after he graduated he became a full-time employee working as the Library’s facility manager.
“He loved writing,” says Nate’s father, Robert Birmingham. “He also loved literature, especially the work of Russian writers.”
“Nate was a gifted writer and an asset to the Library in so many ways,” says Elizabeth Siecke, Dean of the Potter Library.
After Nate’s untimely and sudden death in July of 2015, his parents held a memorial service in their hometown of Oak Ridge, N.J. In attendance were former teammates from Nate’s high school baseball and hockey teams, as well as family and friends. Proceeds from the event were used to create a permanently-endowed scholarship at Ramapo College in Nate’s name. The award will benefit student aides in the Potter Library, particularly those majoring in Literature.
