Michael Savianeso Memorial Scholarship
Michael Savianeso, Media Services, Asst. Manager retired in 2018 after 30 years at Ramapo. He passed on July 8, 2020 at age 66 after being diagnosed with mesothelioma.
Michael’s love of music was second only to his love of June, his wife of 35 years. From an early age he became skilled at playing guitar and writing songs. He was too shy to perform in public and decided that live sound and production were his destiny. His professional career spanned work in rock clubs with top Jersey bands, road tours with Atlantic Starr, Evelyn Champagne King, other headliners, and house engineer at Ashford and Simpson’s club Twenty Twenty.
At Ramapo College, he enjoyed working with students, staff and faculty. He thought of them all as family. Michael had a music studio at home where he wrote, played and sang. He was writing and playing up until the time he passed.
“He always looked for the best in people and had a ready smile that warmed people’s hearts,” said June.
June Savianeso created the Michael Savianeso Memorial Scholarship to recognize Ramapo students who are involved in the Music program and share Michael’s love of music. The recipient will be nominated and selected by the music faculty in consultation with the Dean of the School of Contemporary Arts.
